why train at lanka yoga
Since 2021, over 400 people have completed a yoga teacher training at Lanka Yoga. A good number of them now teach full-time, run studios, or lead their own retreats and trainings around the world.
Every training here is Yoga Alliance certified, held in a venue that was purpose-built for teacher training on Sri Lanka’s south coast. Stefan Camilleri (E-RYT 500) founded Lanka Yoga and leads the Synergy Vinyasa training, built on the Yoga Synergy method, an evidence-based approach to movement developed by physiotherapist Simon Borg-Olivier, who has been teaching for over 40 years and runs his own advanced intensive here each year. Aaron Petty leads the 200-hour Hatha training. Jess Dezaux leads the 100-hour Vinyasa and Yin. Although they teach different methods they share the venue, standards and small groups of no more than 20.
The shala is open-air, up in the treetops overlooking the lake. Accommodation, kitchen and pool are all on one site. This means no commute, no split locations and no wasted time during your training. There are three vegan meals a day, prepared on-site with produce from our own vegetable garden. The whole place was designed around the rhythm of yoga teacher training.
FAQ – Yoga Teacher Training Sri Lanka
What's the difference between the 200-hour and 100-hour yoga teacher training?
The 200-hour is a full Yoga Alliance RYT-200 certification — three weeks covering anatomy, philosophy, teaching methodology, and daily practice teaching. It qualifies you to teach globally. The 100-hour is a two-week Vinyasa + Yin module — ideal if you want to specialise, already hold a 200hr qualification, or want an immersive training without the full three-week commitment. Both are residential at Lanka Yoga on Koggala Lake.
Is Lanka Yoga Yoga Alliance certified?
Yes. Our 200-hour trainings are registered with Yoga Alliance (RYT-200). The 100-hour Vinyasa + Yin training is Yoga Alliance International YACEP-approved, and the Teachers Intensive carries YACEP continuing education credits. Exact certification details are listed on each training page.
How long is a yoga teacher training in Sri Lanka?
Our 200-hour trainings run for three weeks. The 100-hour Vinyasa + Yin is two weeks, and the Teachers Intensive is seven nights. All are fully residential at Lanka Yoga on Koggala Lake.
How much does yoga teacher training cost in Sri Lanka?
At Lanka Yoga, 200-hour trainings start from €3,200 (shared room) up to €4,000 (private). The 100-hour training starts from €1,900, and the Teachers Intensive from €1,350. All prices include accommodation and meals. Full pricing is on each training page.
Can beginners join yoga teacher training in Sri Lanka?
Yes, though some prior experience helps. We recommend at least six months of regular practice before joining a 200-hour training — not because it’s required, but because you’ll get more out of it. Many students come primarily to deepen their own practice rather than to teach, and that’s completely fine.
Where in Sri Lanka is Lanka Yoga located?
On Koggala Lake near Galle, on Sri Lanka’s south coast — about two hours from Colombo International Airport. You’re close to beaches, surf, and Galle Fort, so there’s plenty to explore on days off.
What is included in the yoga teacher training?
All trainings include tuition, accommodation, and three plant-based meals a day. 200-hour programs also include course materials, a printed training manual, Yoga Alliance RYT-200 certification, and lifetime access to our online foundations course. The 100-hour includes printed and digital workbooks and 100hr YACEP credits. Full inclusions are on each training page.
What styles of yoga are taught during the training?
It depends on the training. We offer Synergy Vinyasa (200hr with Stefan Camilleri), Hatha Yoga (200hr with Aaron Petty), and Vinyasa + Yin (100hr with Jess Dezaux). The Teachers Intensive with Simon Borg-Olivier covers a movement-science approach to traditional yoga. Full curriculum details are on each training page.
