Our Approach

What Makes Our Retreats Different?

Lanka Yoga wasn't adapted from a hotel or rented for a few weeks each year. It was purpose-built for yoga retreats, yoga teacher trainings and immersive experiences. Since 2021, we've welcomed hundreds of guests from around the world to our lakeside campus on Sri Lanka's south coast.

Everything happens in one place. The open-air shala overlooks Koggala Lake, accommodation sits just a short walk away, and our on-site vegan kitchen serves three fresh meals a day using produce from our own vegetable garden and fruit forest wherever possible.

Why Lanka Yoga

Why Retreat with Lanka Yoga?

The details matter. A retreat should feel easy once you arrive, so you can spend less time organising and more time being present. That's why everything you need is already here.

01

A Purpose-Built Yoga Campus

The shala, accommodation, kitchen and pool all sit on one lakeside property. No transfers, no commuting to practice, no feeling like yoga was added onto a hotel stay.

02

Led by Experienced Teachers

Every retreat is guided by experienced teachers with a clear, considered approach, some from our resident team, others visiting teachers who choose Lanka Yoga as their home.

03

Small Groups & Shared Tables

Retreats are intentionally kept small, capped at around 20 guests. Shared meals and downtime create connection, while leaving space for quiet, personal reflection.

04

Nourishment & Sri Lankan Living

Three vegan meals a day, prepared fresh on-site from our garden and fruit forest. And when you want to explore, beaches, surf, Galle Fort and local cafés are on your doorstep.

Why Sri Lanka

Why Do a Yoga Retreat in Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka has quietly become one of the world's most rewarding places to retreat, the natural beauty and spiritual depth you'd look for in Bali or India, but with far fewer crowds and outstanding value. For a week of practice, rest and reconnection, few settings come close.

  • A calm, natural setting on Koggala Lake, jungle, paddy fields and the Indian Ocean all within reach
  • Excellent value, a fully residential retreat with accommodation and all meals included
  • Easy to reach, with a simple tourist-visa process and widely spoken English
  • A living Buddhist culture of meditation and mindfulness that deepens the whole experience
  • A warm tropical climate, with the sunniest season on the south coast from December to April

It's why guests travel from across Europe, North America and Australia to retreat with us on the south coast. New to the idea? Read what a yoga retreat is.

Lanka Yoga is bliss! The vegan food is amazing thanks to Jeevan and his team. The manager, Chaminda, couldn't have been more helpful organising tours, transport and cultural activities. We had a beautiful room looking over Lake Koggala — stunning morning sunrises were the norm. A little slice of heaven.
Ruth K. · Google review
Incredible yoga retreat venue in Sri Lanka. Stefan, Dush and the team were exceptional. Every request was met with ease and joy. The food was incredible — you'd never tell it was fully vegan. The shala was beautiful with amazing views for morning practice. We will definitely be back.
Paige T. · Google review
Exceptional, inspiring and caring teachers, the perfect yoga, breathtaking sunrises, an ideal location. Everything is designed to refocus on what's essential. For those still hesitant: go for it without thinking — life is too short to deprive yourself of such an experience.
Frederick G. · Google review
I couldn't recommend Jess's yoga teacher training enough! She brought the most amazing physical practice together with a truly inspiring spiritual and philosophical journey. Her knowledge is immense and her warmth builds connection immediately.
Fliss · Google review
The course was truly transformational. My biggest takeaway was how I can make Yoga personal — how I can integrate the teachings into my life. The depth of experience went beyond every expectation.
Milli · Google review
I loved my training here. They bring a rare passion for yoga — from the physical practice to the theory and philosophy behind it — and the knowledge runs deep. They genuinely care about every student.

Questions

FAQs about Yoga Retreats in Sri Lanka

Who are the retreats suitable for?

Most of our retreats are open to all levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. Individual retreat pages provide guidance on whether previous yoga experience is recommended.

How long are the retreats?

Most retreats run between five and seven nights, giving you enough time to fully settle into the experience while still fitting into a holiday or longer trip around Sri Lanka.

What is included in the retreat price?

All retreats include accommodation, daily yoga and movement sessions, three plant-based meals a day, and access to all communal facilities at Lanka Yoga.

Where is Lanka Yoga located?

On Koggala Lake near Galle, on Sri Lanka's south coast. We're approximately two hours from Colombo International Airport and a short drive from beaches, surf spots and the historic Galle Fort.

How much yoga do you do on a typical retreat?

Most retreats include two sessions per day, often a more active practice and a slower class, workshop, or breath-based session. The exact schedule depends on the teacher and the focus of the week.

What style of yoga are your retreats?

It depends on the retreat. Some weeks are more vinyasa / flow, some include yin and restorative, and others lean into breathwork, somatics, or movement-based practices. We keep the listings updated so you can choose a week that matches how you like to practise.
